Manager - Internal Controls and Audit

    Job Summary

    The Manager - Internal Controls & Audit is responsible for identifying, defining, implementing and measuring processes and procedures for both financial and operational internal controls. The position will also define and drive a comprehensive risk-based audit plan for evaluating the effectiveness of controls to validate the integrity and reliability of financial reporting, safeguard company assets, and ensure compliant operational effectiveness. The position will also be the key liaison with external auditors to support their audit review procedures.

    Essential Functions of the Job:

    • Identify, design, and implement both financial and operational internal controls and processes that safeguard company assets and ensure operational consistency across all subsidiaries.
    • Publish and maintain a company Internal Controls Guide, ensuring its on-going relevance with significant risk exposures and operational effectiveness.
    • Develop and implement defined testing methods and cycles for measuring the effectiveness of controls and drive the execution of testing as defined.
    • Continually monitor and assess the control environment, keeping abreast of significant control issues, trends and developments.
    • Proactively identify and drive the implementation of new controls as necessary to mitigate risks.
    • Coordinate the activities and PBC's for external auditors to support their audit review procedures.
    • Develop and maintain productive relationships with Senior Management and Business Unit Leaders to drive a culture of continuous improvement ensuring controls remain current, relevant, and value-added to the business.
    • Provide quarterly assessment reports and guidance to Senior Management regarding internal controls and processes.
    • Participate in the conversion of business processes and methods related to current systems, third-party administrators, etc. ensuring risk mitigation and operational effectiveness are maintained.

    Required:

    • 7 or more years in accounting or auditing roles with large scale, high transaction, multi-location organizations.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, as well as financial and accounting applications, and both financial and operational controls.
    • Direct experience with internal audit standards and risk assessment practices for large scale multi-location organizations.
    • Must have strong critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and technology talent.
    • Extensive experience multi-tasking, working under pressure, and meeting required deadlines.
    • Multiple years of hands-on experience with large-box Accounting Systems, Microsoft Suite, and 3rd party data extraction/analysis tools.
    • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

    Preferred:

    • MBA, CPA, or CIA.
    • Multi-year experience leading internal control and/or audit teams.
    • Multi-year experience within the Grocery, Foodservice, or Wholesale Distribution industries.
